Eco-friendly water features for your home

Eco-friendly water features for your home

Recently I was stopped in my tracks by reports warning that the 2019-drought could be followed by high rainfall in certain areas and that this could become a future pattern.
This report was a reality-check for me: We need to change the way we design our pools and gardens.
I was fortunate enough to work with a customer in 2019 who realized this and wanted us to build him a spectacular water feature inside his house. This water feature doubles up as a Koi pond and uses minimal water, yet it creates an unbelievably peaceful atmosphere. The client also invested in a small pool, for cooling off purposes and to enjoy the sunset. The indoor water feature is the focus piece of his home. This way, despite possible future droughts, his house is designed to recycle water wisely and he does not need to compromise his lifestyle.
A few ideas for 2020 to adapt to fluctuating weather conditions without compromising lifestyle are:Invite Hendrik or Burgert from Lic Pool to quote you on an Eco Smart Grey water system. This would enable you to make the most of your water: Purified water from the system can be re-used in toilets, water features, swimming pools and the garden.
A properly designed indoor water feature does wonders to enhance the feeling visitors get when entering your house.

Lic Pool’s Porta Pool (a small pool which can be disassembled and moved to other premises) is an affordable way for people renting a townhouse to bring water into the patio area of their home. For families with small children it is also safe as the steps can be removed and children can’t climb into the pool.

Hot Tip: The use of wastewater from a Koi pond to water your indoor garden will benefit the plants more than tap water. It’s like adding liquid compost to the plants.

I believe adapting to climate change is a far better approach than trying to ignore it. Email us at [email protected] or [email protected] for advice on pools/Jacuzzis, grey water systems and the like.
