MAKING FUNCTIONAL STRING ART : Ensure the safety and security of your home –and guard your keys and important numbers with your heart.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Piece of wood in preferred size
- Nails (with a slightly bigger head to prevent the thread from slipping off)
- Thread or twine in colour of your choice
- Hammer
- Paint or varnish
- Printed design (draw your own, download free from the web or copy one from a children’s colouring book!)
- Hooks
- Embellishments
HERE’S WHAT TO DO:
Paint or varnish your wood. Once it is dry, place your design on your wood and trace your picture by hammering the nails evenly on the lines, leaving enough space to wind the thread.
Tear off the design and remove smaller pieces of paper with a tweezer.
Knot the thread around a nail and twist around each nail, tracing the outline. Start filling up your design by randomly twisting around the nails, filling up all the gaps. Finish off by knotting the thread around a nail and tuck the end underneath the threads. Secure knots with a dab of cold glue if needed.
Add some hooks for keys, pegs for family pictures plus the all-important emergency numbers.
